He is All We Need
by Dr. Paul Chappell
“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”
1 Timothy 6:6–8
As our spiritual Father, God desires to provide for our every need.
Many people “upgrade” their lives in the new year. How many new cars, new homes, new electronics have you seen around? Many times this happens because of Christmas bonuses, special deals, or as a result of the “good” feeling of Christmas.
It is not wrong to purchase new things, but if it is simply out of impulse or as a result of our emotions, it could get us in trouble. It is a good rule of thumb that if you do not have it, you should not spend it. Yet many people let jealousy or covetousness drive their spending.
As Christians, God commands us to be content in Him. He has given us life, eternal salvation, and the air we breathe every day (to name just a few!). Here is a list of blessings God has provided for us:
A love that can never be fathomed
A life that can never die
A righteousness that can never be tarnished
A peace that can never be understood
A rest that can never be disturbed
A joy that can never be diminished
A hope that can never be disappointed
A glory that can never be clouded
A light that can never be darkened
A purity that can never be defiled
A beauty that can never be marred
A wisdom that can never be baffled
Resources that can never be exhausted.
What more could we need! God says, “I have it all taken care of. You are my child, and I will provide for you from the unending depths of My resources. Trust Me.”
First Timothy 6:7 reminds us, “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” When we were born, we were in complete dependence of our parents. They fed, clothed, protected, and sheltered us. We could not get a job, make some money, and provide for our needs. We were completely dependent on them for everything!
Sometimes we need to be reminded that we are God’s children. We need to forget our abilities and talents and completely rely on God for our needs.
Have you ever found yourself trying to figure out a way to provide for yourself? Let me share a secret with you: God has already got it figured out! He can provide for you better than you could ever do for yourself! Do not be pressured into keeping up with your neighbors in terms of possessions. Simply rely on God to meet your needs and He will bless your faith.

That is truly inspirational. Thanks for sharing. I heard a quote similar to that yesterday - can't remember it right now, though. :P
